The largest of the four main Balearic Islands (Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca, and Formentera), Mallorca has it all. From breathtakingly stunning nature, picturesque towns and quiet sandy beaches to top-class dining spots and buzzing nightlife making it a perfect destination for anyone.
I recommended renting a car which is the most efficient way to get around in Mallorca giving you the freedom to witness the beauty of the island at your leisure.
Here’s a suggested itinerary for 6 days in Mallorca:
Day 1
Explore Palma
Palma, the capital city of the island, has more than half of Mallorca’s population. It really has it all; trendy restaurants, luxury boutique hotels, stylish bars, famous nightclubs, international shopping boutiques, art galleries and museums, waterfront promenade and urban beaches.
Palma is quite a big city for such a small island and has a fairly large old part of town. However, it’s best if you explore it on foot.
Visit Palma Cathedral – probably the most impressive building in the whole of Mallorca. There’s an entrance fee of โฌ8, but it’s definitely worth it. Not only it’s absolutely beautiful inside, but it also has a roof terrace with some nice views.
Stroll the narrow medieval streets -10min walking distance from the cathedral, there is the main plaza called Plaza Mayor from which a lot of nice, small streets run.
Have lunch at Cappuccino
This famous cafรฉ Cappuccino can be found pretty much anywhere in Mallorca. Go to the one in Calle San Miguel. It’s an old town palace converted into a cafรฉ, they also have a very nice backyard where you can sit.
Address: Carrer de Sant Miquel, 53, 07002 Palma, Illes Balears, Spain

If you’re in Mallorca, you’re in Cappucino.

Have cocktails at Bar Abaco
This one is a MUST. Located in La Lonja district, in an old manor house with the enormous wooden doors, entering Abaco bar is like entering another world and another era. Decorated with flowers and fruit, it offers an exceptional experience where smart waiters in uniform serve drinks in the candlelight atmosphere with classical music playing in the background.
Address: Calle San Juan, 1, 07012 Palma, Islas Baleares, Spain
Have dinner at Restaurante Bonsol
Go to Restaurante Bonsol, located only a 10-15min drive from Palma, for some fresh, mouth-watering fish! I recommend trying a turbot which is their speciality.
Address: Carrer de l’Illa de Xipre, 12, 07007 Palma, Illes Balears, Spain
Day 2
Explore Valldemossa village
I recommend setting off early to explore this beautiful village. Valldemossa is the highest town in Mallorca which lies in an idyllic valley amid the Tramuntana mountains. It’s only a 30min drive from Palma but feels a world away.
It has beautiful car-free alleys with ancient blonde stone houses that vividly contrast against the surrounding green forests of olive trees and the blue sky above.
Doorways are lined with beautiful plants and flowers, and many houses feature a portrait of Saint Catalina Thomร s – the first saint to be born in Mallorca.
Valldemossa has a population of only 2000 people but its quiet and picturesque streets have plenty of shops, art galleries, cafรฉs and restaurants.
Take a break in Cappuccino cafรฉ in this beautiful setting.
Visit Deiร coastal village
After seeing Valldemossa, continue driving along the coast and the first town you hit will be Deiร – very small picturesque artists’ village. Make a quick stop to explore the town. There is a very well known hotel just as you exit the town called Belmond La Residencia which Richard Branson used to own.
As you leave the road out of town, after a few km, there is a little road to your left that will lead you down to a small bay if you fancy having a swim or perhaps having some lunch there. Itโs a very nice place but itโs a stone beach, called Cala Deiร .
Visit Soller town
After Deiร , continue to follow the coastal road, which will eventually lead you to Soller. Soller is larger than Valldemossa and Deiร with similar architecture but it doesnโt really have the same charm. A nice thing to do there is to leave the car and take a little train down to the port, Port de Soller. Itโs a very cute 20 min ride on an open steam train, good fun and you get some nice views. Once in the port, you can stroll around and then take the train back to town when youโre done.
Day 3
Visit La Granja museum
Located in Esporles, itโs a typical Mallorquin farmhouse which has been converted into a museum together with its grounds. There you can learn about rural Mallorcan traditions and visit a number of different rooms that date from the 17th century, including a drawing-room room, perfume-making room, a dungeon with a torture chamber, the family Chapel and many more. Nice and interesting, and you get free doughnuts!
Have dinner at Meson Ca’n Pedro
I recommend going to Meson Ca’n Pedro for dinner. It’s the typical Spanish restaurant located in Genova, just outside Palma. Very solid and authentic, it serves traditional Mallorcan food. You can try local snails for a starter, and for the mains, I suggest you try the roasted suckling pig which is very popular in Mallorca.
Address: Carrer del Rector Vives, 14, 07015 Palma, Illes Balears, Spain
Day 4
Explore Port d’Andratx village
Port d’Andratx is a charming port and fishing village in the south-west of Mallorca. Go there in the morning, grab some ice-cream and have a stroll around the port.
Have lunch at Marisquerรญa Galicia
I highly recommend having lunch at Marisquerรญa Galicia. The restaurant has some of the best fresh seafood from the Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea, accompanied by a wide and excellent selection of wines and cavas.
Address: Carrer de Isaac Peral, 37, 07157 Port d’Andratx, Illes Balears, Spain
Go swimming at Cala Llamp Bay
Only a 6min drive, tucked around the corner from Port d’Andratx, Cala Llamp Bay has one the most stunning view in Mallorca. Although it doesn’t have a sandy beach, its clear azure waters are very inviting. Go for a dip and explore the rock pools.
Explore Portal Nous town
In the evening, I recommend exploring Portal Nous – the relaxed town 12km from the capital Palma. It’s the most prestigious nautical and leisure complex of the Mediterranean.
Have drinks at Roxy Beach Bar
Located in Portal Nous, Roxy Beach offers splendid sea views and even more impressive sunsets!
Address: Carrer d’en Blanes, 10, 07181 Portals Nous, Illes Balears, Spain
Day 5
Beach day at Playas de Es Trenc
I recommend dedicating this day to the beach. Take it easy, soak in the Balearic sun and unwind. Go to Playas de Es Trenc – the most stunning beach with soft white sand and Caribbean-like blue waters. Apparently, it’s the largest unspoilt beach on the island, 60 meters wide and 3.5 km long backed by sand dunes. It really is quiet and feels remote.
Day 6
Try surfing at the Sol Wave House Hotel
After a relaxing day, you should be full of energy to try some surfing! It’s not real surfing in the ocean, but I assume the concept is the same (I’m not a surfer).
Located in Magaluf – the resort which is normally on my ‘areas to avoid’ list (scroll down to the bottom of this article to find out why), Sol Wave House Hotel has two wave machines for surfing. One is for beginners and the other one is for advanced ones.
While it can be quite challenging if you’re a total beginner, it is definitely good fun! And if all else fails, you can enjoy their nice cocktails and good house music.
Other recommendations:
La Lonja district
It’s the old fish market district. During the day, check out the ‘beach club’ called Puro Beach although it’s by the water, it has no beach. For the evening, it has lots of restaurants, bars and clubs. It’s where Bar Abaco is located. Check out Puro Hotel which is also good for a drink.
Mesรณn La Rueda restaurant
Located in Genova, this restaurant offers Argentinian food. They do an amazing meat grill dish where the meat is served on a grill to your table (with vegetables and potatoes), this is called Entraรฑa. Must have this if you go.
Sa Farinera restaurant
Sa Farinera is an authentic Spanish restaurant, fairly close to the airport. Comparable to Ca’n Pedro but I the ambience is nicer and the food is a tad better. It also has a big outdoor area.
Son Amar show
If you want a different evening, Son Amar is a venue outside Palma which does show dinners. You book a set meal and you are seated inside by a large stage and watch a show. The show is very good and varied – magicians, dancers, monster trucks, something for everyone. It lasts a few hours and ends with a laser show. It’s a big tourist attraction but the show is quite cool and the food is decent.
Areas to avoid:
These are very touristy areas and if you want an authentic trip, you’re best to avoid them.
- Magaluf โ this is the resort where all the English package holidaymakers go.
- Playa de Palma โ where all the German package holidaymakers go.
- Peguera โ German tourist-heavy.
- Santa Ponsa โ English tourist-heavy.
How to get there:
Mallorca has an international Palma de Mallorca Airport located 8km east of Palma. As mentioned at the beginning of the post, the best is to rent a car and drive around to see and explore as much as possible in your own time.
